Gold prices remained above $1800 an ounce, after a slight decline in US bond yields.<\/p>\n

Spot gold prices rose 0.1 percent to $1,809.95 an ounce by 03:23 GMT. They remained mostly ahead of $1,800 since closing above this level for the first time in a month last week, according to Reuters.<\/p>\n

There was little change in the US gold futures contracts, which recorded $1811.40.<\/p>\n

Gold prices<\/h2>\n

Record US Treasury yields have fallen from more than a week highs hit in the previous session.<\/p>\n

The dollar index rose from its weakest level in almost a week, making gold priced in US dollars less attractive to non-US currency holders.<\/p>\n

As for other precious metals, silver fell in spot transactions 0.8 percent to $22.76 an ounce, and platinum fell 0.9 percent to $965.45.<\/p>\n

Palladium rose 0.6 percent to $1960.38 an ounce, after hitting its highest level since November 23 at $1962.50 earlier in the session.<\/p>\n

Dollar index<\/h2>\n

At the beginning of the week, the US dollar declined in the currency market in light of the decline in futures contracts for US stock indices.<\/p>\n

Wall Street incurred losses earlier in the session, affected by growing concerns about the Omicron variant.<\/p>\n

It also appeared in the decline of the main US stock indices. For example, the Dow Jones index fell by 1.74% and settled at the level of 35,287 points.<\/p>\n

In addition to the spread of fears of Omicron, especially after Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 G\u00e9n\u00e9rale<\/a> analysts said that the massive spread of the new Omicron mutant increases the risks of imposing tougher restrictions, which will again lead to a decline in economic activity.<\/p>\n

Therefore, risk appetite accelerated deflation, which in turn supported the demand for havens and safe currencies such as the Japanese yen and the Swiss franc, which was reflected in a low demand for the US dollar.<\/p>\n
