The Qatari National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking held its fourth regular meeting for the year 2021, today, under the chairmanship of Dr. Ali bin Smaikh Al Marri, Minister of Labor and Chairman of the Committee.<\/p>\n

The meeting dealt with a number of proposals and projects that would enhance protection and support for victims of human trafficking, support the role of the Qatari committee in combating human trafficking, and enhance coordination between it and the concerned state authorities in this regard.<\/p>\n

It discussed a number of topics and issues on the committee\u2019s agenda and took the appropriate decisions regarding them.<\/p>\n

The most notable of which is the latest developments in the procedures aimed at developing work mechanism between the official authorities (Ministry of Interior – Public Prosecution – Ministry of Labor), to monitor and follow up on human trafficking cases.<\/p>\n

It also discussed developments regarding establishing a nursing home for victims.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, the latest developments in cooperation and coordination with the United Nations Regional Training and Documentation Center for Southwest Asia and the Arab region<\/a> in the State of Qatar were presented, as well as the latest developments regarding strengthening Qatar’s efforts in combating human trafficking.<\/p>\n

The meeting reviewed strengthening of Qatar’s efforts to combat human trafficking by strengthening the rule of law, and discussed a number of projects that would enhance coordination with the competent authorities and the concerned parties to secure protection and support for victims of human trafficking, and other related issues.<\/p>\n

The meeting was attended by representatives from the Ministries of Labor, Interior, Foreign Affairs, Justice, Public Health, Public Prosecution, Government Communications Office and the National Human Rights Committee.<\/p>\n

Last October, the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, decided a series of ministerial reshuffles, including the appointment of the human rights official Ali bin Saeed bin Smaikh Al-Marri<\/a> as Minister of Labor.<\/p>\n

Observers praised the decision to choose Al-Marri as Minister of Labor, given his record in supporting human rights and international relations.<\/p>\n

The two factors made him the best option at this stage, especially with regard to building on labor reforms taken in Qatar over the past years.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
