US gold futures fell 0.3% to $1,805.50.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Gold prices<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>\u201cTreasury yields are looking a bit firmer, and (European) equity markets are a little bit better bid and that\u2019s taking the shine off gold,\u201d said CMC Markets UK\u2019s chief market analyst Michael Hewson.<\/p>\n<p>The US dollar approached its highest levels for the year and bonds continued their rally yesterday, as the delta mutation spread, not inflation, has become the main concern for investors.<\/p>\n<p>Record US Treasury yields rebounded after hitting their lowest level in more than five months during the previous session.<\/p>\n<p>European shares rose ahead of today&#8217;s European Central Bank meeting, which is expected to produce a monetary easing tone.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Precious metals<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>With regard to other precious metals, silver rose 1.1% to $25.17 an ounce, palladium advanced 1.2% to $2665.58, and platinum rose 0.7% to $1073.21 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>The dollar stood at the edge of new record peaks for the current year yesterday, amid concerns about the growing infections, which affected gains that sparked expectations of raising interest rates. At the same time, investors wait for what the European Central Bank will say to derive their next step.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, the euro touched its lowest level since April. The currency recorded $1.1772 in Asian transactions, not far from its lowest price this year, $1.1704.<\/p>\n<p>The euro may find support if the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?client=opera&amp;hs=nkM&amp;sxsrf=ALeKk03vAXpxXBTbolBcLuMeDEGJQun0ew:1626979598120&amp;q=European+Central+Bank&amp;stick=H4sIAAAAAAAAAONgVuLQz9U3MMoxi3_EaMwt8PLHPWEprUlrTl5jVOHiCs7IL3fNK8ksqRQS42KDsnikuLjgmngWsYq6lhblF6Qm5ik4p-aVFCXmKDgl5mUDAGW-GdBaAAAA\">European Central Bank<\/a> does not meet expectations for adjustments in the direction of monetary easing when it meets today.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Monetary policy<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>\u201cOn balance, the ECB\u2019s new inflation target suggests monetary policy will remain ultra-accommodative for an even longer period of time,\u201d which will act as a headwind for the euro, Commonwealth Bank of Australia strategists Kim Mundy \u00a0said.<\/p>\n<p>The dollar index rose 0.1% to 93.033 and may test the March peak of 93.439, according to Sean Callow, an analyst at Westpac in Sydney, as the currency appears to benefit from risk aversion when investors are concerned and from expectations of a rate hike when they are overwhelmed by reassurance.<\/p>\n<p>The latest price of the Japanese yen was 109.87 for the dollar and 129.237 for the euro.<\/p>\n<p>The pound sterling also recorded $1.3616, dropping below the 20-day and 200-day moving average and just slightly above the five-month low recorded yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Cryptocurrencies recouped yesterday&#8217;s losses to surpass Bitcoin&#8217;s lowest level in a month and return above $30,000.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gold prices have recorded a new decline, incurring losses for the second consecutive session.
