{"id":198033,"date":"2021-06-07T19:58:24","date_gmt":"2021-06-07T19:58:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/?p=198033"},"modified":"2021-06-07T20:00:13","modified_gmt":"2021-06-07T20:00:13","slug":"el-salvador-bitcoin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/en\/el-salvador-bitcoin\/","title":{"rendered":"El Salvador to officially approve Bitcoin as legal tender"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">El Salvador intends to send a bill to parliament next week to approve Bitcoin as legal money, becoming the first country in the world to do so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The President of El Salvador, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?sa=t&amp;rct=j&amp;q=&amp;esrc=s&amp;source=web&amp;cd=&amp;cad=rja&amp;uact=8&amp;ved=2ahUKEwiN0dDKpobxAhVihv0HHeNpAKYQFjAAegQIAxAD&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FNayib_Bukele&amp;usg=AOvVaw2pLUJORZOs1SCLbTYdb1uK\">Nayib Bukele,<\/a> announced that the step to legalize Bitcoin currency in a recorded message during the Bitcoin Conference 2021 in Miami, Florida, USA, during a presentation hosted by Jack Muellers, founder of the digital wallet company Strike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNext week, I will send to Congress a bill that makes Bitcoin legal money,\u201d Bukele said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the short term, this will \u201callow the financial inclusion of thousands of people who are outside the legal economy,\u201d the president added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said the bill aims to create jobs in a country where \u201c70 percent of the population does not have a bank account and works in the informal economy\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The International Labor Organization estimates that 6 out of 10 people in El Salvador live off the country&#8217;s informal economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The cryptocurrency is gaining momentum day by day. Bitcoin changes absolutely everything,&#8221; Billionaire and co-founder of Twitter and Square, Jack Dorsey, &nbsp;said at the&nbsp;Bitcoin 2021 Conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He continued: &#8220;If I were not at Square or Twitter, I would be working on bitcoin. If [bitcoin] needed more help than Square or Twitter, I would leave them for bitcoin.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For Dorsey, Bitcoin has the potential to create a new financial infrastructure that is more inclusive and supportive of underserved communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dorsey&#8217;s comments come after the recent support for the cryptocurrency from Tesla CEO Elon Musk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">High price<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the end of May, the price of Bitcoin witnessed a rise towards the level of 40 thousand dollars, coinciding with the return of momentum to the cryptocurrency market, which is trying to regain some of the gain it lost during the volatile May transactions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The price of Bitcoin, the largest cryptocurrency, rose by 5.2% in transactions to reach $39,588.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Bloomberg Galaxy Crypto Index advanced 8%, with rival currencies such as Ethereum gaining, after the index posted its worst performance ever last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Virtual currencies have been swinging wildly in recent days after billionaire Elon Musk criticized bitcoin&#8217;s energy consumption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said his company, Tesla, had suspended accepting payments using cryptocurrency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The tough regulatory rhetoric on cryptocurrencies from the People&#8217;s Bank of China (the central bank) exacerbated the sell-off, which led to the unwinding of investors&#8217; leveraged positions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>El Salvador intends to send a bill to parliament next week to approve Bitcoin as legal money, becoming the first country in the world to do so.
