{"id":194978,"date":"2021-05-10T23:27:27","date_gmt":"2021-05-10T23:27:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/?p=194978"},"modified":"2021-05-10T23:28:41","modified_gmt":"2021-05-10T23:28:41","slug":"iran-banking-sector","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/en\/iran-banking-sector\/","title":{"rendered":"Iran demands lifting sanctions on its banking sector"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Iran has demanded, during its nuclear negotiations, the total lift of the sanctions imposed on its banking sector, in a definitive and verifiable manner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Governor of the Central Bank of Iran, Abdul Nasser Hemmati, said, \u201cWe must ensure the credibility of lifting the sanctions imposed on the central bank and the other Iranian banks including the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?sa=t&amp;rct=j&amp;q=&amp;esrc=s&amp;source=web&amp;cd=&amp;cad=rja&amp;uact=8&amp;ved=2ahUKEwjX5du9n8DwAhU64eAKHYk_ArwQ-TAoADAxegQIQBAB&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.swift.com%2F&amp;usg=AOvVaw3dAlR6i5170YQ5c-oLQp-M\">SWIFT <\/a>system and all financial transfers between Iranian banks and other foreign banks\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The governor also stated that a number of central bank officials are participating in the negotiations directly, to ensure the faithfulness of the agreement to lift the ban.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hemmati said the central bank has its own way of making sure of the fact that the sanctions have been lifted from the country, and added that he is optimistic about the course of the negotiations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Iranian President Hassan Rouhani revealed, during press statements, that \u201cthere was an agreement to lift all basic sanctions\u201d during the Vienna talks, adding that \u201cnegotiations are continuing on some details\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The delegations participating in the indirect Vienna talks between Tehran and Washington and the rest of the parties to the nuclear agreement continued their bilateral and multilateral consultations to reach solutions to the outstanding issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Simultaneously, the three committees emerging from these negotiations have continued their work since last Friday afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The three committees are: the committee concerned with determining the sanctions the U.S. must lift, the committee concerned with determining the nuclear measures that Tehran must take to return to the implementation of its nuclear pledges, and the committee concerned with the procedural arrangements to return to the agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Rouhani&#8217;s previous statements, the US sanctions on Iran have had a an impact the banking sector in addition to depriving Iran of $50 billion in revenues annually. In addition, Iranian budget deficit reached about $58 billion at the end of the last fiscal year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The total net government debt increased to $258 billion, according to the International Monetary Fund report&nbsp; issued in October 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The sanctions also resulted in the collapse of the Iranian currency&#8217;s value to unprecedented levels.
