{"id":193465,"date":"2021-04-27T22:23:31","date_gmt":"2021-04-27T22:23:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/?p=193465"},"modified":"2021-04-27T22:23:33","modified_gmt":"2021-04-27T22:23:33","slug":"danish-panalpina","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/en\/danish-panalpina\/","title":{"rendered":"Danish Panalpina buys Kuwaiti Agility&#8217;s Global Integrated Logistics for $4.2 Bn"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Danish transport and logistics group DSV Panalpina has acquired Global Integrated Logistics (GIL) from<a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?sa=t&amp;rct=j&amp;q=&amp;esrc=s&amp;source=web&amp;cd=&amp;cad=rja&amp;uact=8&amp;ved=2ahUKEwjT5vDNup_wAhULzIUKHT0pDi4QFjACegQIDxAD&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.agility.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2020%2F09%2FAgility-Kuwait-Profile-2020-EN.pdf&amp;usg=AOvVaw0qNfajopmhktvS92sLjd5W\"> Kuwait&#8217;s Agility <\/a>for $4.2 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As soon as the acquisition was announced, Panalpina&#8217;s share rose by 8.3%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This deal is one of several deals in which global logistics companies in recent years seek to build large entities in the fragmented cargo transportation market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Danish Panalpina<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After the deal, DSV would overtake DB Schenker, putting it behind only DHL Logistics and Kuehne &amp; Nagel as measured by revenue and freight volumes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;\u201cThis is very positive news and exactly what has been at the top of investors\u2019 wish list,\u201d said Mikkel Emil Jensen, analyst at Sydbank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAnd it\u2019s exactly what DSV want more of, and where they are strongest in terms of earnings, so there is an opportunity to create really good synergies,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Agility\u2019s logistics unit has around 17,000 employees and had revenue of $4 billion last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DSV\u2019s Chief Financial Officer Jens Lund told Reuters in an interview that the unit is \u201can excellent match\u201d and that he expects to lift profitability at the Agility unit from a current operating margin of 3.5-4% to DSV\u2019s margin of around 10%. He declined to elaborate on how much synergy the acquisition will create.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis will give us good exposure in Asia-Pacific and the Middle East,\u201d Lund said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The acquisition will increase DSV\u2019s freight volumes by around a quarter and give it an extra 5% in global market share, according to Lund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis industry is still very fragmented,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Acquisition and growth<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Panalpina is adopting a growth strategy through acquisitions, and less than two years ago, it bought the Swiss logistics services group Panalpina for about $6 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under the Agility deal, DSV Panalpina will transfer 19.3 million new shares worth 1 Danish crown each to Agility, representing around 8% of its shares, making the Kuwait company the second largest shareholder in DSV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Panalpina expects the Agility unit to be fully integrated around a year after the transaction closes in the third quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The company also reported first-quarter operating profit above expectations on Tuesday and raised its expectations for full-year profit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2.70 billion expected by analysts for the January-March quarter in a poll gathered by the company, Panalpina\u2019s operating profit before special items stood at 3.07 billion crowns, topping the.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DSV raised its forecast for annual operating profit before special items to 11.25 billion-12.0 billion crowns from 10.5 billion-11.5 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Keep reading: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/en\/kuwait-corruption\/\">Financial Report: Kuwait Ended Corruption And Money Waste<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Danish transport and logistics group DSV Panalpina has acquired Global Integrated Logistics (GIL) from Kuwait&#8217;s Agility for $4.2 billion.
