{"id":185901,"date":"2021-01-28T18:12:43","date_gmt":"2021-01-28T18:12:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/?p=185901"},"modified":"2021-01-28T18:19:06","modified_gmt":"2021-01-28T18:19:06","slug":"saudi-competition-authority-approves-ncb-samba-merger","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/en\/saudi-competition-authority-approves-ncb-samba-merger\/","title":{"rendered":"Saudi Competition Authority approves NCB-Samba merger"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Saudi General Authority for Competition said it approved finalizing the merger between the&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/english.mubasher.info\/markets\/TDWL\/stocks\/1180\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">National Commercial Bank<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/english.mubasher.info\/markets\/TDWL\/stocks\/1090\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Samba Financial Group<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">GAC said Kingdom needs pioneering and high-net-worth banks that contribute to financing Vision2030 plans and projects and achieve ambitions of expanding locally and internationally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The relationship between the two banks is complementary, GAC said. The competition between them is limited in three main products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also, the economic concentration in the crossed products between the two banks remains within the acceptable limits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Competitive restrictions<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are highly competitive restrictions on local banks from international banks licensed to operate in the Kingdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">GAC said its approval is due to the high rate of demand for electronic banking transactions, and the increasing role of agents in banking business performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Competition is expected to increase between traditional and digital banks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">International bodies responsible for regulating financial sectors after the 2008 financial crisis tend to give great importance to banks&#8217; solvency and stability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are no regulatory restrictions or other entry barriers that limit the entry of new local commercial or digital banks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The merging entity pledged to the GAC not to close any NCB branches after the merger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">GAC said the banking sector is distinguished by its high transparency and strict supervision by the supervisory authorities.
