{"id":151734,"date":"2020-10-21T15:10:31","date_gmt":"2020-10-21T15:10:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/uk-eu-hint-at-brexit-talks-breakthrough\/"},"modified":"2020-10-21T15:10:31","modified_gmt":"2020-10-21T15:10:31","slug":"uk-eu-hint-at-brexit-talks-breakthrough","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/en\/uk-eu-hint-at-brexit-talks-breakthrough\/","title":{"rendered":"UK, EU hint at Brexit talks breakthrough"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Downing Street signaled an end to the Brexit talks impasse could be in sight after the EU suggested it is prepared to make concessions.<\/p>\n<p>A phone call has been arranged for this afternoon between chief negotiators David Frost and Michel Barnier after the latter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/brexit-agreement-within-reach-says-barnier\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">told the European Parliament<\/a> this morning that \u201can agreement is within reach if both sides are willing to work constructively.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brexit talks stalled last week when the U.K. put formal negotiations on hold after the European Council. U.K. ministers and officials, including Frost, Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Cabinet Office Minister Michael Gove, said that without a signal from the EU that it is also ready to make concessions, rather than just expecting the U.K. to do so, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/?p=1487500\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">formal talks can\u2019t resume<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But Barnier stressed Wednesday that the EU is ready to compromise in order to reach a deal. \u201cWe will seek the necessary compromises on both sides in order to reach an agreement and we will do so right up until the last day until it\u2019s possible to do so.
