{"id":151668,"date":"2020-10-19T14:50:21","date_gmt":"2020-10-19T14:50:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/eu-countries-sound-alarm-about-growing-anti-5g-movement\/"},"modified":"2020-10-19T14:50:21","modified_gmt":"2020-10-19T14:50:21","slug":"eu-countries-sound-alarm-about-growing-anti-5g-movement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/en\/eu-countries-sound-alarm-about-growing-anti-5g-movement\/","title":{"rendered":"EU countries sound alarm about growing anti-5G movement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>To see a chart about attacks on telecom infrastructure by anti-5G groups, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/?p=1484281\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">view this article on your browser<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A growing anti-5G movement is getting in the way of Europe\u2019s digital ambitions, 15 capitals warned the EU Commission as they called for a robust strategy to counter concerns about the new technology.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is clear \u2026 that we are witnessing increasing activity of the anti-5G movement across the European Union,\u201d the group said, adding that recent attacks on telecom infrastructure \u201care not only a threat to the economy of the affected member states but hinder also the ability for the European Union to meet its ambitious 5G goals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The group sent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/POLITICO-Letter-EMF5G-disinformation-15-countries.pdf\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a letter<\/a> to Commission vice presidents Margrethe Vestager and V\u011bra Jourov\u00e1 as well as digital commissioner Thierry Breton late last week. The letter was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/POLITICO-Letter-to-EC_5G-disinformation-cover-note.pdf\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">initiated by Poland<\/a> and backed by Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Portugal, Slovakia and Sweden.<\/p>\n<p>Industry groups <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/coronavirus-5g-arson-attacks-online-theories\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">earlier this year warned<\/a> of increasing pushback from protest groups on 5G rollout and even attacks including mast torchings and harassment of telecom engineers.<\/p>\n<p>The opposition against the next-generation telecom technology has coalesced around Stop 5G groups on social media, which have successfully pushed some authorities to start investigating health effects from the technology. Groups have also spread wild \u2014 and wildly untrue \u2014 theories linking 5G to the spread of coronavirus in recent months.<\/p>\n<p>Updated figures from telecom industry lobby group GSMA showed there had been 221 arson attacks across 18 countries globally so far, with the U.K. (87), France (50) and the Netherlands (30) being most heavily hit.<\/p>\n<p>Of the 27 EU countries, 10 had seen arson attacks on telecom infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>Little evidence exists linking cell phone radiation to health problems, the World Health Organization <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news-room\/q-a-detail\/5g-mobile-networks-and-health\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">underlines in its evaluation.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo date, and after much research performed, no adverse health effect has been causally linked with exposure to wireless technologies,\u201d it said, adding that \u201cso far, only a few studies have been carried out at the frequencies to be used by 5G.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection, which sets global health standards on telecom technology, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icnirp.org\/en\/activities\/news\/news-article\/rf-guideli&lt;a href=https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/eu-needs-plan-to-counter-anti-5g-movement-capitals-say\/?utm_source=RSS_Feed&amp;utm_medium=RSS&amp;utm_campaign=RSS_Syndication&gt;Read More \u2013 Source&lt;\/a&gt;&lt;\/p&gt;_[contf]_[contfnew]_        &lt;img src=\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h5><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">politico<\/a><\/h5>\n<p>[contfnewc] [contfnewc]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>To see a chart about attacks on telecom infrastructure by an..<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":151669,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[50],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-151668","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-tech"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.5 -
