{"id":151432,"date":"2020-09-18T22:20:55","date_gmt":"2020-09-18T22:20:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/boris-johnson-uk-wants-to-rewrite-brexit-withdrawal-agreement-to-stop-eu-being-abusive\/"},"modified":"2020-09-18T22:20:55","modified_gmt":"2020-09-18T22:20:55","slug":"boris-johnson-uk-wants-to-rewrite-brexit-withdrawal-agreement-to-stop-eu-being-abusive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/en\/boris-johnson-uk-wants-to-rewrite-brexit-withdrawal-agreement-to-stop-eu-being-abusive\/","title":{"rendered":"Boris Johnson: UK wants to rewrite Brexit Withdrawal Agreement to stop EU being abusive"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The U.K. wants to rewrite elements of the Brexit Withdrawal Agreement to prevent the EU from being \u201cabusive\u201d to Britain, the countrys Prime Minister Boris Johnson said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe assumed our EU friends and partners would want to negotiate in good faith,\u201d Johnson told the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/news\/12690552\/boris-johnson-slams-brussels-failing-act-good-faith-brexit-deal\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sun<\/a> in an interview published late Wednesday, adding: \u201cWeve been paid-up members for 45 years.\u201d Asked whether Brussels was acting in good faith, Johnson replied: \u201cI dont believe they are.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The prime minister said the controversial <a href=\"https:\/\/services.parliament.uk\/Bills\/2019-21\/unitedkingdominternalmarket\/documents.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Internal Market Bill<\/a>, which the government has admitted would break international law, would \u201cring-fence\u201d the Withdrawal Agreement, struck by Johnson himself last year, \u201cto put in watertight bulkheads that will stop friends and partners making abusive or extreme interpretations of the provisions.\u201d Johnson has previously said the EU is threatening to \u201cblockade\u201d Northern Ireland by stopping exports from Great Britain.<\/p>\n<p>In the Sun interview, Johnson claimed he had asked during negotiations for the withdrawal deal, \u201cYoure not actually going to blockade our food, are you?\u201d The paper said Johnson then appeared to mock EU chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barniers accent, saying: \u201cAnd they say, Oh, no, no, we must see what your regulatory framework is going to be.
