{"id":14458,"date":"2017-11-07T10:52:55","date_gmt":"2017-11-07T10:52:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/post-brexit-trade-bill-to-be-revealed\/"},"modified":"2017-11-07T10:53:15","modified_gmt":"2017-11-07T10:53:15","slug":"post-brexit-trade-bill-to-be-revealed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/en\/post-brexit-trade-bill-to-be-revealed\/","title":{"rendered":"Post-Brexit trade bill to be revealed"},"content":{"rendered":"<\/p>\n<p>The Government starts the legal process today to carve out the UK&#039;s post-Brexit future as an independent trading nation.<\/p>\n<p>A Trade Bill will be published in Parliament which is designed to give the Government the power to develop its trade relationship with the EU and the rest of the world.<\/p>\n<p>At its core is a commitment to write the EU&#039;s current free trade agreements into the statute books, so that existing arrangements can be closely paralleled.<\/p>\n<p>A Government source said this was designed to minimise confusion with our non-EU trading partners and avoid &quot;substantive renegotiations&quot;.<\/p>\n<p>The source suggested most nations with whom we currently trade as part of the European Union would welcome the clarity, which would &quot;enable us to maintain and improve our role as a global player&quot;.<\/p>\n<p>That job has been handed to a charismatic New Zealander called Crawford Falconer who is leading the nitty-gritty of the trade negotiations.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Falconer, 63, is a passionate runner and rugby enthusiast known for his blunt talk and dry humour.<\/p>\n<figure><figcaption>Image:Straight-talking rugby fan Crawford Falconer is in charge of the Bill<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>He is also renowned for his grasp of detail \u2013 which will be tested severely as the complex and thorny detachment process continues.<br \/>.<br \/>The Bill would also allow the Government to apply to become an independent member of the Government Procurement Agreement (GPA).<\/p>\n<p>This valuable deal allows the UK \u2013 as part of the EU \u2013 to bid for government contracts around the world worth an estimated \u00a31.3tn pounds.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>When we leave the EU, we would also leave membership of the GPA, so a legal path to rejoin would have to be laid.<\/p>\n<p>The Bill would also allow the Government to set up a new way to resolve international trade disputes.<\/p>\n<p>Currently the UK uses the EU&#039;s established mechanisms, but after Brexit a new institution would be required to monitor practices which could damage business \u2013 such as flooding the British market with cheap imports.<\/p>\n<p>This body would investigate complaints from industry and recommend whether action should be taken.<\/p>\n<p>Opponents of Brexit \u2013 and the Government&#039;s approach \u2013 are likely to frustrate the Bill&#039;s passage through Parliament by tabling amendments.<\/p>\n<p>Over 400 have been added to the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/david-davis-suggests-brexit-withdrawal-deal-will-favour-eu-11107899\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">EU Withdrawal Bill<\/a><\/strong>, which forced the Government to delay the line-by-line scrutiny of the Bill in committee.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blockads.fivefilters.org\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Let&#039;s block ads!<\/a><\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/blockads.fivefilters.org\/acceptable.html\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">(Why?)<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/post-brexit-trade-bill-to-be-published-in-parliament-11117012\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Original Article<\/a><\/p>\n<div id=\"contfix\">\n<div id=\"contdto\">         <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/sky-news-logo-59.png\"\/> <\/p>\n<h4 id=\"contfixlink\"><a href=\"http:\/\/news.sky.com\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Sky News<\/a><\/h4>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Government starts the legal process today to carve out t..<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":14459,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[46],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-14458","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-politics"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.8 -
