{"id":143676,"date":"2020-04-30T05:11:34","date_gmt":"2020-04-30T05:11:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/treasury-secretary-federal-government-wont-bail-out-mismanaged-states\/"},"modified":"2020-04-30T05:11:34","modified_gmt":"2020-04-30T05:11:34","slug":"treasury-secretary-federal-government-wont-bail-out-mismanaged-states","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/en\/treasury-secretary-federal-government-wont-bail-out-mismanaged-states\/","title":{"rendered":"Treasury Secretary: Federal Government Wont Bail out Mismanaged States"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The federal funds being sent to states to help deal with the COVID-19 pandemic shouldnt be used on matters unrelated to the pandemic, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said.<\/p>\n<p>COVID-19 is a disease caused by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/giving-the-right-name-to-the-virus-causing-a-worldwide-pandemic-2_3277200.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus<\/a>, a novel coronavirus from China.<\/p>\n<p>The $150 billion approved by Congress in legislation signed by President Donald Trump is being sent to states to cover CCP virus-related expenses, Mnuchin said during an interview on CNBCs \u201cSquawk Box.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWeve been clear that to the extent people have to use police to enforce coronavirus issues, public safety, things like that, that they could allocate that money to the coronavirus issues, but that this was not about lost revenues and thats the way the bill was written,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis isnt just going to be a federal bailout of the states,\u201d he added later. \u201cThis shouldnt be a bailout of states that were mismanaged because of the coronavirus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mnuchin has spoken with many governors, including New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, about funding.<\/p>\n<figure><a href=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2020\/04\/29\/phil-murphy-4-1200x800.jpg\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/themes\/eet\/images\/white.png\" alt=\"Epoch Times Photo\" \/><figcaption><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2020\/04\/29\/phil-murphy-4-1200x800.jpg\" alt=\"Epoch Times Photo\" \/><\/figcaption><\/a> New Jersey Gov. (Michael Karas\/The Record via AP, Pool)<\/figure>\n<p>Facing financial shortages, some governors have pressed for additional funds from the federal government, including New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Murphy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur costs are going up serving folks who have lost their jobs, small businesses that have been crushed, folks who are in the healthcare system etc.,\u201d Murphy said on the same show this week.<\/p>\n<p>The National Governors Association, headed by Maryland Gov.
