Reverend Jesse Jackson is backing Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) for the Democratic presidential nomination on Sunday as Sanders is looking to make a comeback when more voters in six states go to the polls Tuesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith the exception of Native Americans, African Americans are the people who are most behind socially and economically in the United States and our needs are not moderate. A people far behind cannot catch up choosing the most moderate path,\u201d Jackson said in a statement to news outlets. \u201cThe most progressive social and economic path gives us the best chance to catch up and Senator Bernie Sanders represents the most progressive path. Thats why I choose to endorse him today.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jackson, a longtime civil rights activist and former presidential candidate, said he will appear alongside Sanders at an event in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on Sunday. When he was the mayor of Burlington, Vermont, Sanders backed Jacksons presidential campaign in 1988, which also featured Sanderss current rival, former Vice President Joe Biden, as a Democratic candidate.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think with Rev. Jackson, I think we got a real boost in our campaign,\u201d Sanders told CNN on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Jackson, at the same time, told news outlets that Bidens campaign hasnt reached out to him for an endorsement.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Biden campaign has not reached out to me or asked for my support,\u201d he added. \u201cThe Sanders campaign has, and they responded to the issues I raised.\u201d<\/p>\n
