Gordon Sondland, who served as the U.S. Ambassador to the European Union, issued a statement late Friday saying that President Donald Trump is set to recall him from the role.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was advised today that the President intends to recall me effective immediately as United States Ambassador to the European Union,\u201d Sondland said in a statement<\/a> issued via his attorney.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am grateful to President Trump for having given me the opportunity to serve, to Secretary Pompeo for his consistent support, and to the exceptional and decimated professionals at the U.S. Mission to the European Union,\u201d he added. \u201cI am proud of our accomplishments. Our work here has been the highlight of my career.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Epoch Times has contacted the White House for comment.<\/p>\n

Sondlands statement was released shortly after Lt. Col. Alexander Vindmans lawyer said that Vindman was fired by the White House<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Both Vindman and Sondland testified in the Democrat-led House of Representatives impeachment inquiry against President Trump.<\/p>\n

The Senate voted to acquit Trump<\/a> on Wednesday, Feb. 5, of the two charges of abuse of power and obstruction of justice, ending the third impeachment trial in U.S. history.<\/p>\n

The Democrat-led House voted along party lines to impeach Trump on Dec. 18 after an impeachment inquiry that lasted for months. House Democrats who sought Trumps impeachment claimed that the president withheld millions of dollars to Ukraine in exchange for investigations.<\/p>\n

Sondland, at the House impeachment hearing in November 2019, confirmed that he never heard directly from Trump about a quid pro quo that connected military aid for Ukraine in exchange for investigations into corruption, saying<\/a> \u201cI never heard from Read More \u2013 Source<\/a>
