Longshot Republican presidential candidate Joe Walsh dropped out of the 2020 race on Feb. 7, days after a dismal showing in the Iowa Republican caucuses.<\/p>\n

President Donald Trump, 73, who is running for re-election, won about 97 percent of the vote<\/a> and all delegates in Iowa. Walsh, 58, a former U.S. representative for Illinois, earned 1 percent, as did former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld, 74.<\/p>\n

\u201cIm suspending my campaign, but our fight against the Cult of Trump is just getting started,\u201d Walsh said in a statement on Friday morning, four days after the caucuses. \u201cIm committed to doing everything I can to defeat Trump and his enablers this November. I cant do it alone.\u201d<\/p>\n

Walsh stopped by CNNs \u201cNew Day\u201d on Feb. 7 to explain why he dropped out of the race.<\/p>\n

\u201cI got into this because I thought it was really important that there was a Republican out there every day calling out this president for how unfit he is. I want to stop Trump, I believe hes a threat to this country. He cant be stopped within the Republican Party. Nobody can beat him. Its Trumps party,\u201d Walsh said.<\/p>\n

All indications were that Trump cant be beaten in the Republican primary, Walsh added, noting if that was true then there was no reason for him to stay in the race.<\/p>\n

Walsh said that \u201cthe state parties are beholden to Trump,\u201d citing the slew of cancelled primaries and caucuses. \u201cThe conservative media world, Fox News and all of rest, wouldnt give me the time of day,\u201d he lamented.<\/p>\n

A number of state Republican parties have canceled primaries, declaring support for the president and saying funds should be used for his reelection effort, not for a primary. The states with scrapped primaries and caucuses include Kansas, Alaska, and Arizona.<\/p>\n

Walsh said he will work now to defeat Trump by supporting the Democratic presidential nominee, no matter who it is.<\/p>\n
