House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) tore President Donald Trumps State of the Union speech in half just after the president finished speaking on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n

Pelosi, 79, was handed a copy of Trumps prepared remarks along with Vice President Mike Pence, 60, before Trump began speaking. She reached out a hand to shake Trumps but he did not shake it.<\/p>\n

It wasnt clear whether Trump, 73, saw Pelosis hand as he was turning away from her when she reached out after receiving the copy of Trumps remarks. Trump also did not shake Pences hand, which was not offered.<\/p>\n

Trump spoke for about an hour before closing to applause. As he raised his hand and acknowledged the praise, Pelosi ripped the papers she held behind him.<\/p>\n

An Epoch Times reporter heard Pelosi respond to a question about why she tore up to the speech. \u201cI tore it up,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was the courteous thing to do considering the alternatives,\u201d Pelosi also said, according to Fox News.<\/p>\n

Pelosi said she was \u201ctrying to find one page with truth on it\u201d but failed.<\/p>\n

The White House said in a statement that Pelosi \u201cjust ripped up: One of our last surviving Tuskegee Airmen. The survival of a child born at 21 weeks. The mourning families of Rocky Jones and Kayla Mueller. A service members reunion with his family.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThats her legacy,\u201d the White House added.<\/p>\n

Pelosi later issued a statement saying Democrats were told \u201cthe President would have a positive message on health care.\u201d<\/p>\n
