LONDON \u2014 U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Thursday the relationship between the U.K. and the U.S. \u201cis not at risk\u201d over Londons decision to give Chinas Huawei a role in Britains 5G network.<\/p>\n

At an event in London, Pompeo said the U.K. remains \u201ca partner and a friend\u201d and the two countries \u201cdeep and complex\u201d bilateral relationship allows the U.S. administration to raise concerns.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is powerful to know that I have a colleague across the table or across the ocean to whom I can say, heres how America sees this, lets work together to solve this,'\u201d Pompeo said, speaking next to the U.K. Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur relationship is not at risk by having gone to our partner and said hey, would you guys think about X, Y or Z \u2014 or one of the hundreds of issues where two nations interact and work together,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, the British government decided<\/a> to give Huawei a limited role in the rollout of 5G in the U.K., arguing that banning the firm outright would delay the network by up to three years. The Chinese company would be banned from access to sensitive data but supply the \u201cedge\u201d of the system, such as antennae.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe decision was made on Tuesday. Im confident we can work together to implement that decision and work to get this right,\u201d Pompeo said at the London event, organized by the Policy Exchange think tank.<\/p>\n
