The question is how best to approach this,\u201d the tech giants chief executive said <a href=\"https:\/\/bruegel.org\/events\/partnering-with-europe-on-responsible-ai-a-conversation-with-sundar-pichai-ceo-google-and-alphabet\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">at a conference<\/a> in Brussels.<\/p>\n<p>The European Commission <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/pro\/us-pushes-light-regulations-for-ai-in-contrast-to-europe\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">is scheduled<\/a> to present a white paper on artificial intelligence, which will set the path forward for the next five years. An early draft showed that banning facial recognition in public places was an option on the table.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile AI promises enormous benefits for Europe and the world, there are real concerns about the potential negative consequences of AI,\u201d said Pichai, mentioning deep fakes and facial recognition.<\/p>\n<p>The tech CEO acknowledged that the United States and the European Union were both starting to develop regulatory approaches on artificial intelligence, and called for \u201cinternational alignment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Recent developments, however, indicate Brussels and Washington might not be on the exact same page when it comes to artificial intelligence.
