LONDON \u2014 Donald Trump said he would not want the British health service included in a trade deal between the U.K. and the U.S. even if it were handed over \u201con a silver platter.\u201d<\/p>\n

His comments serve as a boost to U.K. Prime Minster Boris Johnson, who has spent days fighting off claims by opposition Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn that Trump wants U.S. firms to win private contracts in the National Health Service and push up drug prices.<\/p>\n

Corbyn revealed leaked documents<\/a> from the U.K. Department for International Trade last week that showed U.S. negotiators had raised drug patents in preliminary trade talks with their U.K. counterparts.<\/p>\n

But during a visit to London for the NATO summit, the U.S. president said his country does not want involvement in U.K. health. \u201cIf you handed it to us on a silver platter, we wouldnt want it,\u201d he said. \u201cWe want nothing to do with it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ahead of the visit, officials worried any intervention in the campaign<\/a> by the U.S. president could be unhelpful for Johnson, given widespread dislike of Trump in the U.K.<\/p>\n

Trump insisted he would not comment on the ongoing U.K. election campaign, which ends on December 12, because he does not want to \u201ccomplicate\u201d it, before adding that Johnson would do \u201ca good job.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI have no thoughts on it,\u201d he said, when asked about the election. \u201cIts going to be a very important election for this great country, but I have no thoughts on it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Asked whether he could work with Corbyn, if the Labour leader is elected, Trump said: \u201cI can work with anybody.\u201d<\/p>\n
