{"id":140313,"date":"2019-12-11T06:00:22","date_gmt":"2019-12-11T06:00:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/barr-fbi-likely-acted-in-bad-faith-while-investigating-trump\/"},"modified":"2019-12-11T06:00:22","modified_gmt":"2019-12-11T06:00:22","slug":"barr-fbi-likely-acted-in-bad-faith-while-investigating-trump","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/en\/barr-fbi-likely-acted-in-bad-faith-while-investigating-trump\/","title":{"rendered":"Barr: FBI Likely Acted in Bad Faith While Investigating Trump"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Attorney General William Barr said that the Obama administrations FBI may have been acting in \u201cbad faith\u201d while probing whether President Donald Trumps 2016 campaign had ties to Russia.<\/p>\n<p>Barr, in an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/justice-department\/barr-thinks-fbi-may-have-acted-bad-faith-probing-trump-n1098986\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NBC News<\/a> on Tuesday, dismissed findings by the Department of Justices Inspector General, Michael Horowitz, that the FBI wasnt acting on a political bias when it surveilled Trump campaign staffer Carter Page for about a year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think probably from a civil liberties standpoint, the greatest danger to our free system is that the incumbent government use the apparatus of the state, principally, the law enforcement agencies and the intelligence agencies, both to spy on political opponents. But as to use them in a way that could affect the outcome of the election. As far as Im aware, this is the first time in history that this has been done to a presidential campaign,\u201d he told NBC on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Barr also accused the media of unremittingly carrying a misleading narrative that Trump colluded with Russia. Earlier this year, former special counsel Robert Mueller revealed Trumps campaign didnt collude with Moscow.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think our nation was turned on its head for three years based on a completely bogus narrative that was largely fanned and hyped by a completely irresponsible press,\u201d Barr said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think there were gross abuses \u2026 and inexplicable behavior that is intolerable in the FBI. I think that leaves open the possibility that there was bad faith.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure><a href=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2019\/12\/10\/John-Durham-and-Michael-Horowitz-1200x780.jpg\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/themes\/eet\/images\/white.png\" alt=\"John Durham and Michael Horowitz\" \/><figcaption><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2019\/12\/10\/John-Durham-and-Michael-Horowitz.jpg\" alt=\"John Durham and Michael Horowitz\" \/><\/figcaption><\/a> L-U.S. Attorney John Durham. (Manuel Balce Ceneta\/AP Photo)<\/figure>\n<p>Horowitz concluded in a report released on Monday that the four applications for warrants to spy on Page contained 17 significant errors.<\/p>\n<p>The errors and other failures amounted to \u201cserious performance failures by the supervisory and non-supervisory agents,\u201d his report said. Horowitz said that FBI agents didnt investigate Trump out of political bias.<\/p>\n<p>However, Barr told the broadcaster that Horowitz didnt look very hard and claimed the inspector general merely accepted the FBIs answers at face value.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll he said was, people gave me an explanation and I didnt find anything to contradict it\u2026he hasnt decided the issue of improper motive,\u201d Barr remarked. \u201cI think we have to wait until the full investigation is done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The attorney general added that he still believes Trumps campaign was spied on.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was clearly spied upon,\u201d he told the network. \u201cThats what electronic surveillance is \u2026 going through peoples emails, wiring people up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Barr added, \u201cThere was and never has been any evidence of collusion and yet this campaign and the presidents administration has been dominated by this investigation into what turns out to be completely baseless.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The FBI launched a counterintelligence investigation of the Trump campaign in late July 2016. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/attorney-general-surveillance-of-trump-campaign-a-clear-abuse-of-the-fisa-process_3169280.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">On Monday<\/a>, Barr concluded that the investigation was \u201cintrusive\u201d and was initiated based \u201con the thinnest of suspicions.\u201d The suspicions were \u201cinsufficient\u201d to justify the steps the bureau went on to take, he said.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. Attorney John Durham, whom Barr appointed to run a separate investigation on the Russia probe, ba<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/barr-fbi-likely-acted-in-bad-faith-while-investigating-trump_3170494.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Read More \u2013 Source<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Attorney General William Barr said that the Obama administrations FBI may have been acting in \u201cbad f..<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":140314,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[46],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-140313","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-politics"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.4 -
