It isnt OK to rely on people to cooperate,\u201d Edwards told POLITICO during a recent interview at the Electoral Commissions headquarters in central London. \u201cYou need to have a clear regulatory gateway. Such tools <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/facebook-political-advertising-transparency-register-elections-2020-digital-campaign\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">often do not provide a complete picture<\/a> of how groups are using the platform for political purposes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIts a step in the right direction, but there are major issues with it,\u201d Edwards added. \u201cTheir definitions of what constitutes a political ad are different to what the electoral rules say.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Call for a bigger stick<\/h3>\n<p>U.K. regulators have been calling for changes to campaigning rules for more than a year.<\/p>\n<p>Both the Electoral Commission and the Information Commissioners Office, the local privacy regulator, cited political parties <a href=\"https:\/\/ico.org.uk\/media\/about-the-ico\/consultations\/2615563\/guidance-on-political-campaigning-draft-framework-code-for-consultation.pdf\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ongoing aggressive data-collection practices<\/a> \u2014 and<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LONDON \u2014 British election monitors do not have a clear pictu..<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":140286,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[50],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-140285","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-tech"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.3 -
