President Donald Trump said that the report from the Department of Justices inspector general showed the FBI \u201cfabricated evidence\u201d and \u201clied to the courts.\u201d<\/p>\n

Inspector General Michael Horowitz found 17 \u201csignificant errors or omissions<\/a>\u201d in the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) applications to surveil Trump campaign associate Carter Page.<\/p>\n

\u201cIts a disgrace whats happened with the things that were done to our country,\u201d Trump told an array of Republican Senators and state officials in the White House on Dec. 9, shortly after the report (pdf<\/a>) was released to the public. \u201cIts incredible, far worse than what I ever thought possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump, who said he was briefed on the report, added: \u201cIts a very sad day when I see that.\u201d Claiming the probe was \u201cconcocted,\u201d he said the intelligence abuses were \u201cprobably something thats never happened in the history of our country.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThey fabricated evidence and they lied to the courts,\u201d Trump continued. \u201cThis was an attempted overthrow and a lot of people were in on it, and they got caught.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking at the behest of Trump, former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi said, citing her experience in law enforcement, that \u201cthe American people should be terrified that this could happen to you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Most of the FBI agents and officials who were part of the major errors have left the agency or been removed from their positions, FBI Director Christopher Wray told Horowitz in a letter also released on Monday. The same is true with the Department of Justice.<\/p>\n

Horowitz concluded that the investigation into the Trump campaign was properly predicated because of \u201cthe low threshold for predication\u201d in existing guidelines, citing the conversation between Trump campaign aide George Papadopoulos and Alexander Downer, an Australian official who reported the conversation to American counterparts.<\/p>\n

U.S. Attorney John Durham, who is conducting an investigation into whether the surveillance of the Trump campaign in 2016 was free of improper motives, is still conducting that probe.<\/p>\n
