{"id":139072,"date":"2019-11-28T09:11:11","date_gmt":"2019-11-28T09:11:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/trump-establishes-task-force-on-missing-and-murdered-native-americans\/"},"modified":"2019-11-28T09:11:11","modified_gmt":"2019-11-28T09:11:11","slug":"trump-establishes-task-force-on-missing-and-murdered-native-americans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/en\/trump-establishes-task-force-on-missing-and-murdered-native-americans\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump Establishes Task Force on Missing and Murdered Native Americans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President Donald Trump on Tuesday signed an executive order establishing a task force on missing and murdered American Indians and natives of Alaska.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cOperation Lady Justice Executive Order\u201d was signed in the Oval Office amid Native American leaders, including Kevin DuPuis, chairman of Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, and AJ Not Afraid, chairman of Crow Nation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is my honor to sign an executive order \u2026 to address a tragedy facing Native American communities\u2014the crisis of missing and murdered American Indians and Alaska natives, in particular women and children. Its a tremendous problem. Its been going on for a long time. Many, many decades, beyond that, and were going to address it,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c-span.org\/video\/?466817-1\/president-trump-native-american-executive-order\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Trump said<\/a> before signing the order.<\/p>\n<p>More than 5,000 Native American women and girls were reported missing in a single year and some are still missing, Trump said. One study showed Native American women are 10 times more likely to be murdered than the average American, he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis should have happened many years ago,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The Task Force on Missing and Murdered American Indians and Alaska Natives, co-chaired by Secretary of the Interior David Bernhardt and Attorney General William Barr, will do several things, including engaging with tribal communities on the scope of the issue, developing protocols for new and unsolved cases, and establish a team to review cold cases.<\/p>\n<figure><a href=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2019\/11\/26\/trump-signs-executive-order-1200x800.jpg\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/themes\/eet\/images\/white.png\" alt=\"trump signs native american order\" \/><figcaption><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2019\/11\/26\/trump-signs-executive-order.jpg\" alt=\"trump signs native american order\" \/><\/figcaption><\/a> President Donald Trump signs an executive order establishing the Task Force on Missing and Murdered American Indians and Alaska Natives, in the Oval Office of the White House in Washington on Nov. 26, 2019.
