{"id":138817,"date":"2019-11-25T16:10:12","date_gmt":"2019-11-25T16:10:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/uber-loses-london-operating-license-over-pattern-of-failure\/"},"modified":"2019-11-25T16:10:12","modified_gmt":"2019-11-25T16:10:12","slug":"uber-loses-london-operating-license-over-pattern-of-failure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/en\/uber-loses-london-operating-license-over-pattern-of-failure\/","title":{"rendered":"Uber loses London operating license over pattern of failure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ride-hailing app Uber has had its license to operate in the U.K. capital withdrawn by regulator Transport for London over safety concerns.<\/p>\n<p>London Mayor Sadiq Khan <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SadiqKhan\/status\/1198908741548171264?s=20\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">said<\/a> the app had shown a \u201cpattern of failure that has directly put passenger safety at risk.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Over recent months Uber drivers have made 14,000 fraudulent trips with unlicensed drivers taking over existing accounts, he said. \u201cAt this stage TfL cant be confident that Uber has the robust processes in place to prevent another serious safety breach in the future,\u201d said Khan.<\/p>\n<p>Jamie Heywood, Ubers regional general manager, said the decision was \u201cextraordinary and wrong,\u201d while confirming that the company would appeal.<\/p>\n<p>Uber counts 45,000 drivers in London and 3.5 million users of its app. It has pledged to continue operating as normal during the appeal process.
