President Donald Trump stated on Wednesday he told U.S. Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland he wanted no quid pro quo with Ukraine, which is the center of the House impeachment inquiry.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just noticed one thing and that would mean its all over,\u201d Trump told reporters<\/a> before reading from handwritten notes taken during Sondlands testimony.<\/p>\n

Sondland had testified about a conversation with the president where he asked about what Trump wanted from Kyiv.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd it was a very short, abrupt conversation,\u201d the ambassador said<\/a>, which Trump had cited. \u201cHe was not in a good mood. And he just said, I want nothing. I want nothing. I want no quid pro quo. Tell Zelensky to do the right thing. Something to that effect.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump then said he \u201cturned off the television\u201d after hearing the ambassadors statements. \u201cI want nothing, I said it twice,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n

The president then blasted reporters, saying that \u201cif you werent fake news, you would cover it properly.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump disputed Sondlands claim that he was in a bad mood on the phone call.<\/p>\n

\u201cIm always in a good mood, I dont know what that is,\u201d he said, adding that he doesnt know Sondland \u201cvery well.\u201d He added, \u201cI have not spoken to him much. This is not a man I know well. He seems like a nice guy though.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sondland, in the hearing, confirmed he never heard directly from Trump about a quid pro quo that connected military aid for Ukraine to investigations. But Sondland said that \u201cwe all understood\u201d that a meeting at the White House for Ukraines president was conditioned on an investigation or a statement announcing investigations.<\/p>\n

Earlier, Sondland said that \u201cit was abundantly clear that there was a link\u201d between the actions Ukraine desired and an announcement on investigations on behalf of Kyiv. He never specifically made a link to the military aid.<\/p>\n

\u201cWas there a quid pro quo?\u201d Sondland rhetorically asked himself. \u201cThe answer is yes.\u201d<\/p>\n

When he was pressed by Republican lawmakers, Sondland admitted that no one had told him about investigations and relied only on presumptions that he had made.<\/p>\n

Rep. Mike Turner (R-Ohio) asked about Sondlands answers<\/a> regarding the $400 million in military aid to Ukraine.<\/p>\n
