John Cornyn (R-Texas) wanted a bill he co-sponsored with Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) to be passed unanimously on Nov. 13, but Schumer blocked the measure by objecting to Cornyns request for a unanimous vote.<\/p>\n<p>Schumer said he didnt oppose the bills substance, but accused Cornyn of playing a \u201clittle game\u201d to try to get his bill passed when action on additional issues in health care was being blocked by Republicans, according <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/healthcare\/470293-schumer-blocks-drug-pricing-measure-during-senate-fight-seeking-larger\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">to The Hill<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a whole lot of legislative ideas, not just his,\u201d Schumer said on the floor. \u201cHis party blocks everything that would have far larger consequence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Schumer said there were better legislative options than Cornyns bill, including one introduced by Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Ron Wyden (D-Ore.).<\/p>\n<p>Cornyn responded by saying Schumers blocking of the measure was \u201cwhat people hate about Washington.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy bill is not going to sink the prospects of that larger package of legislation,\u201d Cornyn said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIm not going to agree to price-fixing by the U.S. government,\u201d he added about another measure Schumer cited, which would let Medicare negotiate drug prices.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\nSenator Blumenthal and I introduced a noncontroversial, bipartisan bill that passed the Judiciary Committee unanimously. This bill is meant to lower drug prices, but Senator Schumer keeps playing partisan games and is blocking it.
