Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), who is heading the impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump, said he was not told about the raid that left ISIS terrorist leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi dead on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Schiff, who heads the House Intelligence Committee, told ABC News<\/a> that he wasnt told about the operation. Hours before, Trump said in a press conference that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and other officials were not told due to potential leaks that could have imperiled the lives of American soldiers.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy understanding [Pelosi] wasnt [told]. But a couple of things, first of all, good riddance. [Al-Baghdadi] was a blood thirsty killer to the degree that he retained operational control of ISIS,\u201d Schiff told the broadcaster. \u201cThis is an operational success, this is a symbolic victory. He had the blood of thousands and thousands of people on his hands, including many Americans and American journalists. So, this a great day, a ruthless killer has been brought to Justice. \u201d<\/p>\n

Schiff said that the so-called gang of eight, which includes leaders in Congress from both the Democrats and Republicans, werent told ahead of time.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn terms of notifying the Gang of 8, that wasnt done,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

In his press conference, Trump said that Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Richard Burr (R-N.C.) were told the operation after it was completed.<\/p>\n

Regarding the others, \u201cWe were going to notify them last night, but we decided not to do that because Washington leaks like Ive never seen before,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n

\u201cTheres no country in the world that leaks like we do, and Washington is a leaking machine,\u201d he remarked. \u201cI told my people we will not notify them until our great people are out\u2014not just in but out,\u201d the president added.<\/p>\n

Trump said he wanted to make sure the raid was a well-kept secret.<\/p>\n

\u201cI dont want to have men lost and women. I dont want to have people lost,\u201d he said, adding that a \u201cleak could have caused the death of all of them.\u201d<\/p>\n

No American lives were lost in the mission, although a military dog was injured, Trump said.<\/p>\n

\u201cBaghdadi and the losers who worked for him, and losers they are, they had no idea what they were getting into. In some cases, they were very frightened puppies,\u201d Trump announced. \u201cHe died like a dog. He died like a coward. The world is now a much safer place. God bless America.\u201d<\/p>\n

He described a daring nighttime airborne raid by U.S. special operations forces in Syrias northwestern Idlib province, saying they flew over heavily militarized territory controlled by multiple nations and military forces.<\/p>\n
