{"id":13522,"date":"2017-11-02T09:02:29","date_gmt":"2017-11-02T09:02:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/uk-government-prepares-to-impose-budget-on-northern-ireland\/"},"modified":"2017-11-02T09:02:35","modified_gmt":"2017-11-02T09:02:35","slug":"uk-government-prepares-to-impose-budget-on-northern-ireland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/en\/uk-government-prepares-to-impose-budget-on-northern-ireland\/","title":{"rendered":"UK government prepares to impose budget on Northern Ireland"},"content":{"rendered":"<\/p>\n<p>The U.K.\u2019s Northern Ireland Secretary James Brokenshire announced Wednesday he would take \u201cnecessary steps\u201d to allow a budget bill for Northern Ireland be introduced in Westminster, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/uk-northern-ireland-politics-41823860\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">BBC <\/a>reported.<\/p>\n<p>Northern Ireland\u2019s two major parties, Sinn F\u00e9in and the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP), have failed to reach an agreement that would restore power-sharing at Stormont, leaving the territory without a devolved administration since January.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is very unlikely that an executive will be in place within a timetable to pass a budget by the end of November which is the point at which we and the Northern Ireland civil service assess that Northern Ireland will begin to run out of resources,\u201d Brokenshire said. \u201cNo government could simply stand by and allow that to happen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brokenshire also said his decision did not mean a return to London\u2019s direct rule of the territory and would not be \u201ca barrier\u201d to continue ongoing negotiations, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/uk-news\/2017\/nov\/01\/minister-james-brokenshire-prepares-plans-to-impose-budget-on-northern-ireland\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">the Guardian reported<\/a>.
