{"id":134725,"date":"2019-10-16T20:50:06","date_gmt":"2019-10-16T20:50:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/stressed-pregnant-moms-are-less-likely-to-have-boys-new-study-finds\/"},"modified":"2019-10-16T20:50:06","modified_gmt":"2019-10-16T20:50:06","slug":"stressed-pregnant-moms-are-less-likely-to-have-boys-new-study-finds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/en\/stressed-pregnant-moms-are-less-likely-to-have-boys-new-study-finds\/","title":{"rendered":"Stressed Pregnant Moms Are Less Likely to Have Boys, New Study Finds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Pregnant women are less likely to have boys if they experience physical and psychological <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-stress\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">stress<\/a>, a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-study\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">study<\/a> has revealed.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pnas.org\/content\/early\/2019\/10\/08\/1905890116.short?rss=1%E2%80%8B\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">National Academy of Scientists<\/a> found that stressed moms-to-be were less likely to give birth to boys and may also have a higher risk of preterm birth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe womb is an influential first home,\u201d lead author Catherine Monk, director of womens mental health in OB\/GYN at New York-Presbyterian\/Columbia University Irving Medical Center, <a href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2019\/10\/15\/health\/stressful-pregnancy-boy-babies-wellness\/index.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">told CNN<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe do know that males are more vulnerable in utero, and presumably the stress in these women is of a long-standing nature,\u201d Monk said.<\/p>\n<p>The study tracked 187 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-pregnant\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">pregnant<\/a> women, aged from 18 to 45, to determine how maternal prenatal stress influenced offspring neurodevelopment and birth outcomes.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers say that on average, nature typically assures around 105 boys are born for every 100 female births.<\/p>\n<p>However, the study found that four boys were born for every nine girls when the mother had high blood pressure.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, expectant moms who were psychologically stressed had two boys for every three girls, and the risk of premature birth also increased.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOther researchers have seen this pattern of a decrease in male births related to traumatic cataclysmic events, one of them being President Kennedys assassination and the other being the September 11 terrorist attacks in New York City,\u201d Monk said.<\/p>\n<p>The opposite results were seen in pregnant women who received support from family and friends, with the risk of premature delivery disappearing and the chance of having a male increasing.<\/p>\n<p>On this startling discovery, Monk said: \u201cThe support could be from family and friends. It could be a sense of belonging in a religious community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIts the sense of social cohesion and social connectedness which research suggests is a buffer against the experiences of stress.
