Former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has a warning to fellow Democrats: Underestimate President Trump at your own peril.<\/p>\n

Reid, who formerly represented Nevada for two decades, received a \u201cthank you\u201d from Trump on Twitter<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cFormer Democrat Senator Harry Reid just stated that Donald Trump is very smart, much more popular than people think, is underestimated, and will be hard to beat in the 2020 Election,\u201d Trump stated on Twitter on Monday. \u201cThank you Harry, I agree!?\u201d<\/p>\n

In an interview, Reid told CNNs<\/a> David Axelrod, who had worked as the chief strategist in the Obama administration, that he previously didnt think Trump was \u201ctoo smart,\u201d but now he does not \u201cbelieve that anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump is a \u201cvery, very smart man\u201d who is \u201cnever, never willing to debate an issue on terms that arent his,\u201d Reid, 79, told the host.<\/p>\n

And despite the inquiry about impeachment, Reid believes Trump will be quite difficult to defeat in 2020.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnyone that thinks Trumps going to be beaten easily should have another thing coming,\u201d he warned Democrats.<\/p>\n

Reid moved to reshape Senate procedures during his time as majority leader, like the elimination of filibusters for most nominations by presidents.<\/p>\n

In the interview, he also blasted Republican members of the Senate, claiming that they are \u201cafraid to speak out\u201d about impeachment.<\/p>\n
