{"id":134508,"date":"2019-10-14T12:00:32","date_gmt":"2019-10-14T12:00:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/pence-working-to-release-records-of-his-ukraine-calls-says-they-would-exonerate-trump\/"},"modified":"2019-10-14T12:00:32","modified_gmt":"2019-10-14T12:00:32","slug":"pence-working-to-release-records-of-his-ukraine-calls-says-they-would-exonerate-trump","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/en\/pence-working-to-release-records-of-his-ukraine-calls-says-they-would-exonerate-trump\/","title":{"rendered":"Pence Working to Release Records of His Ukraine Calls, Says They Would Exonerate Trump"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Vice President Mike Pence is working with the White House to release records of his two calls with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.<\/p>\n<p>Pence told reporters on Oct. 9 that the transcripts would exonerate Trump of the allegations that he pressured the Ukrainian leader to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden, a 2020 presidential election candidate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cId have no objection to that,\u201d Pence said when asked about releasing the transcripts.<\/p>\n<p>The vice president spoke after an event in Waukee, Iowa, where he addressed supporters about the presidents trade policy.<\/p>\n<p>Pence said he \u201cnever discussed the issue of the Bidens\u201d with Zelensky. He defended the president, insisting that a \u201cplain reading\u201d of the rough transcript of Trumps call with the Ukranian leader shows \u201cthere was no quid pro quo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The White House <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Unclassified09.2019.pdf\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">released the transcript<\/a> of Trumps call with Zelensky on Sept. 25. According to the transcript, Trump didnt pressure Zelensky to investigate the Bidens. The transcript also contradicted several widely circulated media allegations, including the false claim that Trump made Zelensky a promise.<\/p>\n<p>The Trump\u2013Zelensky call is at the center of the Democrat-run impeachment inquiry. The probe was triggered by an anonymous whistleblower complaint alleging that Trumps request to Zelensky may constitute a campaign finance violation. The Department of Justice examined the complaint and determined that no further action is necessary. Zelensky has said there was no pressure or quid pro quo on the call.<\/p>\n<p>House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) nonetheless launched the impeachment inquiry, pulling the trigger before the White House released the transcript and before the House Intelligence Committee released the whistleblowers complaint.<\/p>\n<p>The White House legal counsel informed Pelosi on Oct. 8 that the White House will not cooperate with the impeachment inquiry unless Pelosi holds a House vote to formally initiate the proceedings. The two prior impeachment inquiries in the House of Representatives were launched via a formal vote.<\/p>\n<p>Pence is mentioned only once in the whistleblowers complaint in relation to a canceled trip to Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>Trumps allegation about Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden, appears to refer to documents and media reports about Hunter Bidens tenure on the board of Burisma, one of the largest gas firms in Ukraine.
