{"id":133996,"date":"2019-10-09T19:01:14","date_gmt":"2019-10-09T19:01:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/battery-pioneers-who-made-mobile-revolution-possible-win-nobel-chemistry-prize\/"},"modified":"2019-10-09T19:01:14","modified_gmt":"2019-10-09T19:01:14","slug":"battery-pioneers-who-made-mobile-revolution-possible-win-nobel-chemistry-prize","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/en\/battery-pioneers-who-made-mobile-revolution-possible-win-nobel-chemistry-prize\/","title":{"rendered":"Battery Pioneers Who Made Mobile Revolution Possible Win Nobel Chemistry Prize"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Three scientists have won the 2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-nobel-prize\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nobel Prize<\/a> for Chemistry for putting power in peoples pockets by developing rechargeable lithium-ion batteries which made the global information technology, mobile and fossil-fuel-free revolutions possible.<\/p>\n<p>American John Goodenough, at 97, became the oldest winner of a Nobel prize and shares the 9 million Swedish crown ($906,000 award equally with Stanley Whittingham from Britain and Akira Yoshino of Japan, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences Nobel Committee said on Oct. 9.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLithium-ion batteries have revolutionised our lives since they first entered the market in 1991. They have laid the foundation of a wireless, fossil fuel-free society, and are of the greatest benefit to humankind,\u201d the committee said.<\/p>\n<p>With peals of infectious laughter, Goodenough asked reporters at a hastily called news conference in London to speak up with their questions so that his \u201cold ears\u201d could hear.<\/p>\n<p>He had not been expecting to win a Nobel prize, he said, but was \u201cvery happy\u201d to get it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLife is full of surprises,\u201d he said after popping a bottle of champagne in celebration.<\/p>\n<figure><a href=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2019\/10\/09\/John-B.-Goodenough-1200x804.jpg\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><figcaption><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2019\/10\/09\/John-B.-Goodenough-600x402.jpg\" alt=\"John-B.-Goodenough\" \/><\/figcaption><\/a> John B. (Peter Nicholls\/Reuters)<\/figure>\n<p>After Whittingham developed the first functional lithium battery in the early 1970s, Goodenough doubled the batterys potential in the following decade.
