{"id":129818,"date":"2019-08-21T00:20:14","date_gmt":"2019-08-21T00:20:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/uk-officials-to-withdraw-from-eu-meetings-from-september-1\/"},"modified":"2019-08-21T00:20:14","modified_gmt":"2019-08-21T00:20:14","slug":"uk-officials-to-withdraw-from-eu-meetings-from-september-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/en\/uk-officials-to-withdraw-from-eu-meetings-from-september-1\/","title":{"rendered":"UK officials to withdraw from EU meetings from September 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LONDON \u2014 U.K. officials will only attend EU meetings with a \u201csignificant national interest,\u201d Brexit Secretary Steve Barclay announced Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Attendance will be reduced by more than half, freeing up officials to work on Brexit preparations and post-Brexit trade opportunities, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Officials will start to withdraw from meetings from September 1, unless the U.K. has an interest in the outcome of discussions, such as security, sovereignty, Brexit, international relations and finance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn incredible amount of time and effort goes into EU meetings with attendance just the tip of the iceberg,\u201d Barclay said in a statement issued by the Department for Exiting the EU on Tuesday. \u201cFrom now on we will only go to the meetings that really matter, reducing attendance by over half and saving hundreds of hours.
