Asked on Fridays BBCs Today program what Donald Trump and Boris Johnsons relationship will be like, the U.S. presidents U.K. envoy Woody Johnson said: \u201cI think its going to be sensational.\u201d<\/p>\n
Pressed on whether the notoriously thin-skinned Trump knew that the new British prime minister had previously described Trump as not fit for office and if he would hold those comments against him, the American ambassador said: \u201cDonald Trump is going to say what he says, what he wants to say \u2026 And I think Boris \u2014 he respects Boris for the same. I mean Boris is going to call it as he sees it.\u201d<\/p>\n
In 2015, Johnson \u2014 who was then the mayor of London \u2014 said Trump was \u201cbetraying a quite stupefying ignorance that makes him, frankly, unfit to hold the office of president of the United States.\u201d The comment came in response to Trump claiming some parts of London were no-go zones where \u201cpolice are afraid for their own lives.\u201d<\/p>\n
But the American ambassador told the BBC that the U.S.-U.K. relationship \u201cis going to be increasingly important for this country and our country,\u201d and so it would be better to \u201clook at the positives\u201d rather than the things the two disagree on.<\/p>\n
