{"id":127755,"date":"2019-07-15T15:20:04","date_gmt":"2019-07-15T15:20:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/uk-trade-secretary-johnsons-pre-brexit-us-trade-deal-wont-work\/"},"modified":"2019-07-15T15:20:04","modified_gmt":"2019-07-15T15:20:04","slug":"uk-trade-secretary-johnsons-pre-brexit-us-trade-deal-wont-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/en\/uk-trade-secretary-johnsons-pre-brexit-us-trade-deal-wont-work\/","title":{"rendered":"UK trade secretary: Johnsons pre-Brexit US trade deal wont work"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>U.K. Trade Secretary Liam Fox on Monday ruled out a pre-Brexit trade deal with the United States, dismissing reported plans by Conservative leadership frontrunner Boris Johnson to negotiate an agreement with Washington before the U.K. leaves the European Union.<\/p>\n<p>Johnson wants to hash out a limited transatlantic deal before October 31 \u2014 the date Britain is slated to leave the EU, barring another extension \u2014 if he is elected as the U.K.s next prime minister, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/edition\/news\/johnson-to-seek-trump-deal-in-first-move-as-prime-minister-7nx7kn8pd\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the Times<\/a>. But the trade secretary said doing so would contravene European law.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe cant negotiate anything with the U.S. until after weve left the European Union,\u201d Fox told BBCs Today program. \u201cIt would be in breach of European law for us to do that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fox also took aim at Johnsons position on food standards in a potential U.K.-U.S. trade deal.
