Aquis Exchange, the London-based trading services group, has struck a deal to buy alternative listing market Nex Exchange for \u00a32.7m.<\/p>\n

Aquis will buy the loss-making Nex Exchange, which is also based in London, from the US futures exchange CME Group.<\/p>\n

It will officially purchase Nex Exchange from CME for \u00a31, plus around \u00a32.7m based on Nex Exchanges current working capital levels.<\/p>\n

The purchase is expected to be completed in the autumn, should it be approved by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).<\/p>\n

Aquis said the acquisition will help it in its goal of becoming the leading exchange services group in Europe by giving it a Recognised Investment Exchanges (RIEs) license.<\/p>\n

Nex Exchange is one of only four equities-focused RIE venues, and bills itself as a challenger to the London Stock Exchanges (LSE) Aim market.<\/p>\n

Yet it currently has only 89 companies listed, with a market capitalisation of around \u00a31.9bn. This compares with more than 900 listed on Aim.<\/p>\n

CME Group purchased Nex Exchanges parent company Nex, the technology-focused financial services firm, for $5.6bn (\u00a34.5bn) in 2018.<\/p>\n

In March, plans by former Numis chief executive Oliver Hemsley to take control of London-based Nex Exchange fell through. The deal valued Nex Exchange at \u00a320m, significantly more than Aquis will pay.<\/p>\n

Nex Exchange made a loss before tax of \u00a32.1m in the year ended March 2018. Aquis said it believes \u201csignificant cost savings can be delivered\u2026 significantly reducing the loss\u201d in the period after the purchase.<\/p>\n
