{"id":125691,"date":"2019-07-02T20:40:21","date_gmt":"2019-07-02T20:40:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/germany-fines-facebook-e2m-for-violating-hate-speech-law\/"},"modified":"2019-07-02T20:40:21","modified_gmt":"2019-07-02T20:40:21","slug":"germany-fines-facebook-e2m-for-violating-hate-speech-law","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/en\/germany-fines-facebook-e2m-for-violating-hate-speech-law\/","title":{"rendered":"Germany fines Facebook \u20ac2M for violating hate speech law"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BERLIN \u2014 Germany has fined U.S. tech giant Facebook for violating the countrys law to combat hate speech online, officials said Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The Federal Office for Justice (BfJ), a subdivision of the German justice ministry, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bundesjustizamt.de\/DE\/Presse\/Archiv\/2019\/20190702.html?nn=3449818\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">announced<\/a> that it had issued Facebook a fine of \u20ac2 million for failing to meet the requirements of Berlins Network Enforcement Act, a law against illegal content, in its <a href=\"https:\/\/de.newsroom.fb.com\/news\/2018\/07\/facebook-veroeffentlicht-netzdg-transparenzbericht\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">transparency report for the first half of 2018<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The fine is a small amount compared with Facebooks <a href=\"https:\/\/investor.fb.com\/investor-news\/press-release-details\/2019\/Facebook-Reports-First-Quarter-2019-Results\/default.aspx\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">first-quarter revenues<\/a> of more than $15 billion.
