{"id":123902,"date":"2019-06-21T09:20:25","date_gmt":"2019-06-21T09:20:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/treasury-committee-chair-nicky-morgan-blasts-fca-over-consumer-access-to-financial-services\/"},"modified":"2019-06-21T09:20:25","modified_gmt":"2019-06-21T09:20:25","slug":"treasury-committee-chair-nicky-morgan-blasts-fca-over-consumer-access-to-financial-services","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/en\/treasury-committee-chair-nicky-morgan-blasts-fca-over-consumer-access-to-financial-services\/","title":{"rendered":"Treasury Committee chair Nicky Morgan blasts FCA over consumer access to financial services"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cityam.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/nicky-morgan-getty-1024x640-57ed94570984e-57ed945728448.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Treasury committee chair Nicky Morgan criticised the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) today for \u201clacking in desire\u201d to improve consumer access to financial services.<\/p>\n<p>The Treasury Committee made a series of recommendations of how consumer access to financial services could be improved in a report published last month.<\/p>\n<p>These included a requirement that firms act in customers best interests, the preservation of bank branches and free-to-use cash machines and enforcement of banks compliance with the equality act being moved to the FCA.<\/p>\n<p>Morgan slammed the FCAs response to the report and suggested the City watchdog \u201chave another go\u201d at replying.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe vast majority of the FCAs reply to our recommendations appears to be a holding response or lacking in desire to effect any change.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor example, we recommended that in addition to the EHRC, the FCA should be given responsibility for the enforcement of the Equality Act.
