Associating with or praising one of these bogeymen \u2013 the \u201c<em>Hate Agent Policy Review<\/em>\u201d cites British anti-migrant activist Tommy Robinson as an example \u2013 can also get a user marked with the scarlet letter, as can identifying with or speaking up for a \u201c<em>designated hateful ideology<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/news\/460790-facebook-lawyer-denies-privacy-exists\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">                           Also on rt.com             Privacy? Facebook lawyer argues users have none                            <\/a><\/p>\n<p>Other \u201c<em>signals<\/em>\u201d are more vague, such as possessing \u201c<em>hate paraphernalia<\/em>\u201d or having \u201c<em>tattoos of hate symbols or hate slogans<\/em>.\u201d The document doesnt give examples of what these might be, but with the media falling for increasingly ridiculous 4chan psy-ops to have everything from the \u201c<em>OK<\/em>\u201d hand sign to milk assigned secret racist meanings, todays innocuous possession could be tomorrows hate paraphernalia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Hate speech<\/em>,\u201d of course, figures prominently in the policy, though Facebooks definition is quite a bit broader than the term is commonly understood. A \u201c<em>tier 2<\/em>\u201d hate speech comment could include calling a person \u201c<em>stupid<\/em>,\u201d \u201c<em>ugly<\/em>,\u201d or even \u201c<em>fraud<\/em>,\u201d if it was determined that the comment had been made on the basis of a \u201c<em>protected characteristic<\/em>\u201d like race, religion, or sexual orientation. Meanwhile \u201ctier 3\u201d consists of \u201c<em>calls to exclude or segregate a person<\/em>\u201d based on their presumed stupidity, ugliness, fraudulence, and so on.<\/p>\n<p>Making three or more \u201c<em>hate speech<\/em>\u201d remarks in a single statement or appearance constitutes a \u201c<em>signal<\/em>,\u201d as does making five in the space of a month. Facebooks hate-hunters are allowed to go back two years in their quest for incriminating material, which can include \u201c<em>public statements, or statements made in private and later made public.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/usa\/461720-google-blacklist-fringe-conservative\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">                           Also on rt.com             Google staff keep blacklist of conservative and fringe sites \u2013 report                            <\/a><\/p>\n<p>The company even keeps a list of so-called \u201c<em>hate agents<\/em>,\u201d because the McCarthyism comparisons werent on-the-nose enough already. YouTube political commentator turned real-life UKIP candidate Carl Benjamin (aka Sargon of Akkad) found himself on the list earlier this year, prior to the European parliament elections; a leaked Facebook document revealed he had been labeled a \u201c<em>hate actor<\/em>\u201d for the unthinkable crime of \u201c<em>neutral representation<\/em>\u201d of a member of the Proud Boys, along with reposting a homophobic comment directed at himself and making fun of a white nationalism supporter. His fellow UK politician Anne-Marie Waters and YouTube commentator Candace Owens are also on the blacklist, according to Breitbart.<\/p>\n<p>Facebook appears to incentivize its employees to hunt down evidence that users are behaving badly both on- and off-platform, and the latter is scarily easy for Facebook to do.
