Via the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailykanban.com\/2017\/10\/volkswagen-boss-rips-elon-musk-destroyer-jobs-money\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Daily Kanban<\/a>, we came across this video of Volkswagen CEO Matthias M\u00fcller ripping Tesla during a panel discussion on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.menschen-in-europa.de\/de\/programm.php\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">the future of the automotive industry<\/a>. Prompted by a comment from the moderator, M\u00fcller laid into the electric car company for its small production volumes, <a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/cars\/2017\/02\/tesla-posts-a-q4-loss-but-the-companys-revenue-grows-amid-acquisitions\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">regular<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/cars\/2017\/05\/tesla-q1-2017-financials-are-in-and-its-all-about-waiting-for-the-model-3\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">quarterly<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/cars\/2017\/08\/tesla-lost-401-million-from-revenues-of-2-7-billion-in-q2-2017\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">losses<\/a>, and for <a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/cars\/2017\/10\/tesla-fires-hundreds-of-workers\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">firing hundreds of workers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"980\" height=\"550\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/wSklSKRkIpk?version=3&amp;rel=1&amp;fs=1&amp;autohide=2&amp;showsearch=0&amp;showinfo=1&amp;iv_load_policy=1&amp;wmode=transparent\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>Per Daily Kanban&#039;s translation:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Now I really need to say a few words about Tesla: With all respect, there are some world champions of big announcements in this world\u2014I don\u2019t want to name names. There are companies that barely sell 80,000 cars a year. Then there are companies like Volkswagen that sell 11 million cars this year, and produce a profit of 13 or 14 billion euro. If I am correctly informed, Tesla each quarter destroys millions of dollars in the three digits, and it willy-nilly fires its workers. Social responsibility? Please. We should not not get carried away and compare apples with oranges.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The attack comes at a tough time for Tesla. The Model 3, the company&#039;s new mass-market EV, is mired in &quot;<a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/cars\/2017\/10\/elon-musk-says-tesla-is-in-model-3-production-hell\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">production hell<\/a>,&quot; with Tesla having little chance of meeting its goal of <a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/cars\/2017\/07\/tesla-will-deliver-the-first-model-3-evs-by-the-end-of-the-month\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">building 20,000 in the month of December<\/a>. And there has been a spate of allegations of harassment at the company&#039;s factory, with workers reporting <a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/tech-policy\/2017\/10\/former-workers-at-tesla-factory-sue-over-alleged-racial-harassment\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">racial<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/technology\/2017\/oct\/19\/tesla-factory-workers-discrimination-claim-race-lgbt-elon-musk\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">now anti-LGBT abuse<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Still, it&#039;s a brave move by M\u00fcller, as VW Group has not been without its own troubles. The diesel emissions scandal is now in its second year, <a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/cars\/2017\/09\/former-vw-engine-chief-arrested-as-emissions-scandal-hits-2-year-anniversary\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">with arrests made in both the US and Germany<\/a>. And while the fallout resulted in <a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/cars\/2015\/09\/volkswagen-ceo-resigns-amid-emissions-test-cheating-scandal\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">M\u00fcller getting his job<\/a>, it has also <a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/cars\/2016\/04\/after-losing-6-2b-in-2015-volkswagen-pledges-18b-to-address-emissions-issue\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">cost VW Group tens of billions of dollars<\/a> in fines, write-offs, and losses.
