Video footage of the attack, originally live-streamed by Tarrant on Facebook, has also been deemed objectionable. A teenager has already appeared before Christchurch District Court last week for allegedly sharing the banned video.<\/p>\n<p>The attempt to scrub Tarrants views from the internet follow Prime Minister Jacinda Arderns <em>\u201cglobal call\u201d<\/em> to fight the <em>\u201cideology\u201d<\/em> of racism. Ardern pledged to <em>\u201cto weed it out where it exists and make sure that we never create an environment where it can flourish.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Free speech advocates, however, are concerned with Arderns censorship-heavy approach.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cPeople are more confident of each other and their leaders when there is no room left for conspiracy theories, when nothing is hidden,\u201d<\/em> Stephen Franks, a constitutional lawyer and spokesman for the Free Speech Coalition, told <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/162e85e9418240d3ae3650c8f59caf56?utm_source=Twitter&amp;utm_campaign=SocialFlow&amp;utm_medium=AP\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">AP<\/a>. <em>\u201cThe damage and risks are greater from suppressing these things than they are from trusting people to form their own conclusions and to see evil or madness for what it is.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Speaking about Tarrants first-person-shooter-style video, counterterrorism expert Jennifer Breedon told RT that banning such videos does <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/news\/454191-christchurch-shooting-video-debate\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">nothing<\/a> to prevent future attacks. <em>\u201cWe need to stop putting band-aids on gunshot wounds,\u201d<\/em> she said. <em>\u201cWere spending so much time talking about we cant have videos like this\u2026rather than answering questions that need to be asked.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Commentators on social media chimed in.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\nI have the manifesto on my hard drive, so in NZ I&#039;d be breaking the law.
