{"id":11516,"date":"2017-10-20T12:42:33","date_gmt":"2017-10-20T12:42:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/norway-names-first-woman-foreign-minister\/"},"modified":"2017-10-20T12:42:33","modified_gmt":"2017-10-20T12:42:33","slug":"norway-names-first-woman-foreign-minister","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/en\/norway-names-first-woman-foreign-minister\/","title":{"rendered":"Norway names first woman foreign minister"},"content":{"rendered":"<\/p>\n<p>Norway\u2019s defense minister Ine Eriksen S\u00f8reide was promoted to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.regjeringen.no\/en\/aktuelt\/changes-in-the-government\/id2576271\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">foreign minister<\/a> in a Cabinet reshuffle Friday, making her the first woman in Norwegian history to fill that top job.<\/p>\n<p>While the news had been floated by local media since Wednesday, the Norwegian king confirmed that the decision had been taken by Conservative Prime Minister Erna Solberg.<\/p>\n<p>S\u00f8reide will replace B\u00f8rge Brende who is to become <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weforum.org\/press\/2017\/09\/norway-s-borge-brende-joins-world-economic-forum\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">president of the World Economic Forum<\/a>. The current Europe minister, Frank Bakke-Jensen, will take her place at the defense ministry.<\/p>\n<p>Soreide first worked as a local TV producer and lawyer. She had served as defense minister since 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Norway is renowned for championing gender equality.
