{"id":110614,"date":"2019-01-10T02:15:52","date_gmt":"2019-01-10T02:15:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/housebuilders-lead-the-way-as-ftse-climbs-to-four-week-highs\/"},"modified":"2019-01-10T02:15:52","modified_gmt":"2019-01-10T02:15:52","slug":"housebuilders-lead-the-way-as-ftse-climbs-to-four-week-highs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/en\/housebuilders-lead-the-way-as-ftse-climbs-to-four-week-highs\/","title":{"rendered":"Housebuilders lead the way as FTSE climbs to four-week highs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cityam.com\/ftse-100\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">FTSE 100<\/a> has climbed one per cent in early trading as US-China trade talks and a housebuilder boost continued the indexs bright start to the year.<\/p>\n<p>The blue chip index has now risen 2.6 per cent so far this year as the third day of trade negotiations between the worlds two largest economies further encouraged global markets.<\/p>\n<p>UK housebuilders were buoyed by resilient <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cityam.com\/company\/taylor-wimpey\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Taylor Wimpey<\/a> results in the face of a slowing housing market, and a 1.3 per cent rise in house prices in December.<\/p>\n<p>Taylor Wimpey \u2013 the FTSE 100s biggest riser \u2013 jumped 6.3 per cent, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cityam.com\/company\/persimmon\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Persimmon<\/a> rose five per cent, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cityam.com\/company\/barratt-developments\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Barratt Developments<\/a> climbed 4.2 per cent and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cityam.com\/company\/bellway\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Bellway<\/a> increased 3.3 per cent.<\/p>\n<p><strong>FTSE 100 biggest risers <\/strong><\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>Taylor Wimpey<\/td>\n<td>+6.48 per cent<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Persimmon<\/td>\n<td>+4.9 per cent<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>ITV<\/td>\n<td>+4.79 per cent<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>GVC Holdings<\/td>\n<td>+4.62 per cent<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Wood Group<\/td>\n<td>+4.41 per cent<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>\u201cThe housebuilders are enjoying a particularly positive session after Taylor Wimpeys surprisingly robust earnings data pre-market,\u201d IG analyst Joshua Mahony said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFears over the housing market in the face of Brexit uncertainty have done little to dent the firms performance, with home completions rising three per cent,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The indexs sharpest fallers were Vodafone \u2013 down 1.7 per cent \u2013 and packaging company Smurfit Kappa, which fell 1.4 per cent.<\/p>\n<p><strong>FTSE 100 sharpest fallers<\/strong><\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>Vodafone <\/td>\n<td>-1.67 per cent<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Smurfit Kappa<\/td>\n<td>-1.36 per cent<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Land Securities<\/td>\n<td>-0.77 per cent<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Hargreaves Lansdown<\/td>\n<td>-0.6 per cent<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Hikma<\/td>\n<td>-0.53 per cent<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>The third day of negotiations between US and Chinese officials in Beijing also lifted the UK and European markets, as the prolonged talks raised hopes of a resolution to the long-running standoff.<\/p>\n<p>The German Dax has climbed 0.9 per cent and the French CAC has risen 1.2 per cent, while all three major US indices closed up last night.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHopes of progress with US-China trade talks are certainly giving markets support, so too a lack of major shocks among corporate trading updates in general,\u201d AJ Bell analyst Russ Mould said.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blockads.fivefilters.org\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><\/a><\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/blockads.fivefilters.org\/acceptable.html\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The FTSE 100 has climbed one per cent in early trading as US..<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":110615,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[202],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-110614","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-finance"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.9 -
