{"id":110581,"date":"2019-01-07T21:40:35","date_gmt":"2019-01-07T21:40:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/uk-to-spend-over-100m-on-ferries-in-case-of-no-deal-brexit-10\/"},"modified":"2019-01-07T21:40:35","modified_gmt":"2019-01-07T21:40:35","slug":"uk-to-spend-over-100m-on-ferries-in-case-of-no-deal-brexit-10","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/en\/uk-to-spend-over-100m-on-ferries-in-case-of-no-deal-brexit-10\/","title":{"rendered":"UK to spend over \u00a3100M on ferries in case of no-deal Brexit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The U.K. will spend more than \u00a3107 million on ferries to ease congestion at ports in case of a no-deal Brexit.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Transport has awarded contracts to French, Danish and British companies to develop additional lorry capacity at the ports of Poole, Portsmouth, Plymouth, Immingham and Felixstowe.<\/p>\n<p>Increased checks after Brexit could \u201ccause delivery of critical goods to be delayed\u201d and significantly disrupt the road network around the port of Dover, the BBC reported, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/business-46704522\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">citing<\/a> documents outlining the agreements.<\/p>\n<p>Liberal Democrat leader Vince Cable described the move as \u201ccomplete madness\u201d as the government has the power to stop a no-deal Brexit at any time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fact that this money is predominantly going to European companies is nothing short of ironic,\u201d Cable told the BBC.<\/p>\n<p>The Danish company DFDS was awarded a contract worth \u00a347.3 million and British firm Seaborne a \u00a313.8 million deal.
