{"id":110329,"date":"2019-01-06T13:15:08","date_gmt":"2019-01-06T13:15:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/ex-eu-commissioner-mandelson-backs-second-brexit-vote\/"},"modified":"2019-01-06T13:15:08","modified_gmt":"2019-01-06T13:15:08","slug":"ex-eu-commissioner-mandelson-backs-second-brexit-vote","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/en\/ex-eu-commissioner-mandelson-backs-second-brexit-vote\/","title":{"rendered":"Ex-EU Commissioner Mandelson backs second Brexit vote"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Peter Mandelson, the former European trade commissioner, and senior minister in the Labour governments of Tony Blair and Gordon Brown, launched an aggressive tirade against Theresa Mays Brexit deal Sunday, calling for a second referendum on Britains EU membership.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/article\/peter-mandelson-theresa-mays-brexit-plan-reduces-us-to-beggars-in-brussels-we-need-another-vote-h828x29sn?shareToken=06831011d309b389ff413f766dd0f6f7\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Writing in The Sunday Times<\/a>, Mandelson, a vocal supporter of the EU, said that Mays deal \u201cwould rob Britain of its sovereignty\u201d \u2014 a criticism also leveled by many Brexit supporters \u2014 and \u201cis not what anyone voted for in 2016.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mandelson said the deal was \u201ca legal and political no mans land in which, desperate to maintain trade in goods, we would have to agree to follow EU rules with no say in making them,\u201d causing \u201ca life of never-ending dispute between Britain and the EU.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He argued that a no-deal Brexit was also impractical because it would mean \u201cwholesale reinvention of our economy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMPs should refuse to be bullied into supporting something that is manifestly against Britains national interest and which they would quickly come to regret.
