It comes just days after President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping met in Argentina and announced a temporary truce in their trade war while talks continue. U.S. concerns about security risks posed by Chinese technology companies are one of the central points of tension between the two countries.<\/p>\n<p>Meng, whose Chinese name is Meng Wanzhou, faces an investigation into whether she has run afoul of U.S. trade sanctions against Iran, the Globe and Mail <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/canada\/article-canada-has-arrested-huaweis-global-chief-financial-officer-in\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">reported on Wednesday<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A bipartisan group of lawmakers from the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rubio.senate.gov\/public\/_cache\/files\/4fa604f8-7487-4452-8b61-d846d9ba4405\/09D27ED1FD0A7A032EAB2056730523F3.10-11-18-letter-to-prime-minister-trudeau-re-huawei.pdf\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">has written to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau<\/a> to register alarm over the prospect of Huawei or other Chinese state-directed companies being included in the development of Canadas 5G network. Allegations that Huawei poses a cybersecurity risk also spurred Congress to pass legislation this summer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/story\/2018\/08\/01\/senate-defense-bill-trump-717791\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">banning<\/a> the U.S. government from procuring equipment or services from the company, as well as from fellow Chinese telecommunications firm ZTE.<\/p>\n<p>Senator Ben Sasse, a Nebraska Republican, praised the arrest on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChina is working creatively to undermine our national security interests, and the United States and our allies cant sit on the sidelines,\u201d he said in a statement. \u201cSometimes Chinese aggression is explicitly state-sponsored and sometimes its laundered through many of Beijings so-called private sector entities that are in bed with Xis communist party.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meng is also the daughter of Huaweis founder and CEO, Ren Zhengfei.
