{"id":102036,"date":"2018-11-26T20:01:15","date_gmt":"2018-11-26T20:01:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/uk-parliament-seizes-internal-facebook-documents-2\/"},"modified":"2018-11-26T20:01:15","modified_gmt":"2018-11-26T20:01:15","slug":"uk-parliament-seizes-internal-facebook-documents-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/en\/uk-parliament-seizes-internal-facebook-documents-2\/","title":{"rendered":"UK Parliament seizes internal Facebook documents"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The U.K. Parliament entered \u201cuncharted territory\u201d to seize internal Facebook documents that hold information about the firms decisions that led to the Cambridge Analytica scandal, The Guardian <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/technology\/2018\/nov\/24\/mps-seize-cache-facebook-internal-papers\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a> Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>The documents could help reveal how Cambridge Analytica managed to misuse Facebook data belonging to millions of people to influence democratic processes, like the U.S. elections and the Brexit referendum.<\/p>\n<p>Damian Collins, the chair of the Parliaments committee on culture, media and sport, obtained the information by sending a senior Parliament official to the hotel room of the founder of U.S. software firm Six4Three to seize the documents, who was visiting London for business. When Six4Three failed to hand over the documents the Parliaments <a href=\"https:\/\/www.parliament.uk\/about\/mps-and-lords\/principal\/serjeant\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">serjeant at arms<\/a> escorted the executive to Parliament where he was warned that he faced prison time if he refused the order.<\/p>\n<p>Six4Three owner Ted Kramer CNN said this summer that \u201cFacebook itself is the biggest violator of data misuse in the history of the software industry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The seized documents are reported to include confidential emails between senior executives within Facebook, and correspondence with Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is an unprecedented move but its an unprecedented situation,\u201d said Collins. \u201cWeve failed to get answers from Facebook and we believe the documents contain information of very high public interest.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Zuckerberg has repeatedly refused to face Parliaments questions about the Cambridge Analytica scandal despite several attempts to summon the Facebook CEO.
