{"id":10126,"date":"2017-10-19T14:32:09","date_gmt":"2017-10-19T14:32:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/manu-joins-eu-flag-club\/"},"modified":"2017-10-19T14:32:09","modified_gmt":"2017-10-19T14:32:09","slug":"manu-joins-eu-flag-club","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/en\/manu-joins-eu-flag-club\/","title":{"rendered":"Manu joins EU flag club"},"content":{"rendered":"<\/p>\n<p>France now officially flies the European flag.<\/p>\n<p>French President Emmanuel Macron told European Council President Donald Tusk that France will recognize the EU\u2019s flag and anthem as official symbols of the European Union.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrance intends today to associate itself\u201d to a declaration recognizing the EU flag and anthem, which was signed by 16 EU countries in 2007, Macron wrote in a letter to Tusk dated October 16, that POLITICO has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.eu\/wp-admin\/post.php?post=747780&amp;action=edit\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">obtained<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a mainly symbolic step but a welcome one in Brussels where leaders gather for a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/european-council-live-blog-3\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">summit<\/a> on Thursday and Friday, and have been urged by Tusk to aim for unity around the EU flag.<\/p>\n<p>Particularly welcome for European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker will be that Macron\u2019s letter includes the acknowledgement that the euro is \u201cthe currency of the European Union,\u201d a claim Juncker <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/junckers-uni-vision-for-europe\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">made<\/a> during his State of the EU speech in September.
