Twitter Restricts Daily Tweet Reading

twitter

BNR – Twitter is restricting the number of tweets that certain accounts may read every day. According to Elon Musk, the measure aims to deter excessive data scraping and system abuse.

Initially, verified users were limited to reading 6,000 posts each day. Unverified accounts, on the other hand, were limited to 600 posts per day, with new unverified accounts limited to 300.

Extension of Daily Reading Restrictions

The temporary reading restriction for verified accounts was eventually extended to 10,000 posts per day. Also, it has been extended to 1,000 posts per day for unverified users and 500 posts per day for new unverified users.

Musk mentioned the hike in a separate tweet without offering any other information.

Twitter recently declared that in order to access tweets, users will need to have an account on the social media network. According to Musk’s statement on Friday, the decision is a “temporary emergency measure.”

Musk said that hundreds of firms, if not thousands, were harvesting Twitter data “extremely aggressively,” negatively harming the user experience.

Harvesting Twitter Data to Train AI

Musk has previously indicated his dissatisfaction with artificial intelligence companies such as OpenAI, the owner of ChatGPT. This is due to the AI firm’s utilisation of Twitter data to train its huge language models.

According to the outage tracking website Downdetector.com, Twitter was offline for hundreds of users on Saturday morning.

During the peak of the downtime at 11:17 a.m. ET, about 7,500 users on the social networking site reported difficulties using the app.

Previously, the social media network had taken several attempts to reclaim advertisers who had abandoned Twitter under Musk’s management.

Furthermore, it attempted to increase subscription income by including verification check marks in the Twitter Blue programme.
