Qatar’s authorities have done tremendous work to improve workers’ conditions in the Gulf country, which is preparing to host the 2022 World Cup, UEFA President Alexander Ceferin said.
In a video interview, the UEFA president praised the efforts made by the Qatar’s authorities to improve workers’ conditions in the country who are making a great effort in building stadiums for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The tournament is being held in the Asian continent for the second time, and for the first in the Arab region and the Gulf.

Ceferin also said he personally visited Qatar last January and he is pleased with the situation.
He concluded his speech saying that there should be exchange in information before condemning anyone.
Qatar is also the first country in the Gulf region that decides to completely cancel the Kafalah (sponsorship) system and give workers the right to change their workplace without the consent of the employer.
The country also set a law a minimum wage that preserves the dignity of the worker and protects him from any extortion that he may be subjected to, through several laws approved by the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
Motivation for other countries
These Qatari steps may motivate countries in the region that still adopt the sponsorship system to end it and follow the Qatari steps in the field of protecting migrant workers and preserving their rights in these countries.
Within the system, workers are exposed to many violations, according to human rights groups.
The International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) announced that the 2022 World Cup will take place in the winter due to the unbearable high temperatures in Qatar during the summer.
The Tournament is attended by 32 teams, and hundreds of millions of people around the world watch it.
